5th Annual Tracy Multi Cultural Festival –October 10
Tracy, Calif. – The rich, cultural diversity that makes up Tracy will be on full display during the 5th Annual Multicultural Festival on Saturday, October 10, 2009. The free, family-friendly event will include international music and dance entertainment as well as a t-shirt decorating. There will also be a wide variety of workshops to learn a new dance in the dance studio, drumming or tae kwon do, and storytelling.
Again, this year, the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts will host the festival from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Mainstage entertainment will feature a mixture of community entertainers and professional acts. Throughout the day the public will be able to enjoy different entertainment representing various cultures like Ballet Folklorico, Polynesian, Drum percussion, and Hawaiian.
At the Global Village, festival goers will see demonstrations of Tae Kwon Do and Hawaiian dance and drumming by Dancing Drum. Children will be invited to participate in decorating t-shirts in many languages, face painting and hands-on crafts.
Closing the day at 5:00 p.m. is Rhythm and Passion, an Argentine Dance Troupe in the ETK Theatre. Rhythm and Passion begins with an exploration of the golden eras of the world's most popular Latin dances: the seductive tango in the seedy bars of 1920's Buenos Aires, the sexy salsa in the streets and nightclubs of the Caribbean, and the wild gaucho in the dangerous countryside of Argentina. Explosive rhythms, vibrant music and exquisite period scenery enthrall the audience with the stories behind the dances.
The tickets for this performance will be $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children under 12.
“The Tracy Arts Commission has worked hard to make the 5th Annual Festival even bigger and better than last year’s, with much more entertainment by local groups and workshops in the dance studio and studio theatre.” says Tracy Arts Program Manager Theresa Yvonne. “It will be a day for the whole family to enjoy themselves, be entertained and learn about the heritages of their neighbors and friends in Tracy.
